Jean Cocteau

The Eiffel Tower Wedding Party
Directed by Oscar Groves
Fall 1997

The actors are silent, and all dialogue takes place over the loudspeaker: Two theatrical voices speak the lines that the players enact. We are presented with a wedding party, which takes place on the Eiffel Tower. The party consists of a bride, a bridegroom, a mother-in-law, a father-in-law, and a general. The play progresses as a photographer attempts to take pictures of the party. With each photograph a different bird comes onstage as though exiting the camera. A pair of "radiograms" performs an elaborate dance routine. At one point, the camera even speaks. In the end, this whimsical tale is a funny and absurd look at world of a wedding party.
